KJ Planning provides boutique town planning services for SME firms, private clients and local and state government.

KJ Planning offers clients expertise and experience developed over decades of experience but with the service ethic, accessibility and responsiveness of a niche consultancy practice. KJ Planning has particular depth in complex and high value development applications and can demonstrate an exceptional track-record in bringing contested and controversial DA’s to mutually acceptable outcomes.

Able to navigate effectively in the complex world of town planning and development, its mission is to take the frustration out of planning processes for all stakeholders.

Kim Johnston - Principal Consultant

Kim Johnston is the Principal Consultant of KJ Planning, with over 20 years of urban and regional planning experience. A Registered Planner with the Planning Institute of Australia, Kim serves as an independent expert on Local Planning Panels under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

Kim holds an Honours degree in Environmental Science from the University of Wollongong, a Masters in Environmental Law from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England.

Her career includes significant tenure as a Senior Environmental Planner for the NSW Department of Planning’s Major Projects Team, where she managed large-scale subdivisions, mixed-use, and tourist developments. Known for her skills in conflict mediation and complex project solutions, Kim has extensive experience with major projects under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and State Environmental Planning Policy (State and Regional Development) 2011.

For corporate clients, Kim offers services in Statements of Environmental Effects, Clause 4.6 Variations, planning proposals, detailed assessment reports, development potential reports, objections to development applications, development scheme advice, and representations to planning panels and the Independent Planning Commission.
