Kim Johnston is the Principal Consultant of KJ Planning and has 30 years of urban and regional planning experience. A Registered Planner with the Planning Institute of Australia, Kim serves as an independent expert on Local and Regional Planning Panels. KJ Planning is also endorsed on various tender panels, including the Local Government Procurement Panel and the NSW Government’s Prequalification Scheme for Consultants in Construction.
Kim holds an Honours degree in Environmental Science from the University of Wollongong, a Masters in Environmental Law from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New England. Kim is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, having completed the Foundations of Directorship course.
Kim began her career in local councils (Sutherland, Wollongong and Leichhardt) and the Department of Planning (Major Projects), assessing and managing the full breadth of development projects. Moving into private consultancy, Kim established KJ Planning in 2010 and regularly undertakes the preparation and assessment of major development applications for applicants, councils and the Department of Planning, as well as the assessment of planning proposals. Kim also provides town planning advice and feasibility and has extensive experience as an expert town planning witness in the Land and Environment Court of NSW.
As a consulting planner, Kim regularly prepares Statements of Environmental Effects documentation for DA submission, Clause 4.6 Variations, detailed assessment reports for consent authorities, development potential reports, objections to development applications, development scheme advice, and representations to planning panels. Kim has a proven track record in the assessment and resolution of contentious and complex development applications.
